Desert Blooming

Desert Bird of Paradise
The shrub above doesn't look like much when in winter dormancy  or spring
leafing out.  But then it buds and blossoms and suddenly it is an amazing 6 inch bloom of gorgeousness!  The first time I saw one I was spellbound.

  1. That's beautiful! I suppose I've seen the plant many times, but didn't realize it had such a big, gorgeous bloom. Aren't these desert flowers something?

    1. The shrub is very similar to the small mesquite trees, but does not have thorns.

    1. It took me one whole season to figure out what it is!

  3. It's so exotic! There's definitely nothing like that around here!

  4. They certainly are spectacular flowers. We don't have anything like that in New Zealand!
