News flash: Undocumented alien infiltrated Bluewater Lake State Park

Two days ago the park dump truck was the location  in which  a stowaway was hiding.

He/she/it was captured and subdued and thereupon was separated and placed in a "holding cell".
An old shirt was clipped over the cardboard "cell", to provide privacy and to allow the "prisoner" to calm.

After a few minutes of dark and quiet, the "prisoner" realized that "resistance is futile"(as the BORG said), and fell deeply asleep.

At first glance, the kitten looked more like a guinea pig than a kitten, but when he/she lifted it's head and opened those wonderful eyes, there was no doubt that this is a beautiful white with black spots kitten.

Later that day, one of our employees, Jaymie, a young Navajo man, adopted the kitten and took him/her home to raise!

Night Terror

Last evening and night we had several thunderstorms and lots of rain.  The thunder and lightening was very scary to Fleur and she was really trying to dig her way through the floors to get to sanctuary!  She was panting and watching it all with great worrying all throughout.  In her efforts to get through the floor, she actually pulled the finish off the vinyl flooring.

Fleur starts out by becoming VERY alert

Then the panting begins

The panting gets more and more

Power worries a lot as well

Then he worries some more

And worries more

He even invites his special love to help him!

Office excitement

My greyhounds are always so excited to go to the office !

Fleur has her own special way of trying to hide her exuberance.

Power however is very determined that nothing shall be unnoticed by him.
He guards the doorway!

Beach Patrol

These lovely creatures are often seen watching and standing guard over the beach areas.  They wait till all is safe and then feed in the shallows along the beach.

Great blue heron pair

Notice the left leg is held high?
These majestic birds have such lovely plumage all year, but the lush feathery beards are in breeding season only.

Aren't I fortunate to get to share space with these birds?

The relaxing dog

Only a few months ago I said that Fleur never roached!  She made a liar out of me!

Thank you all!

40,000 pageviews!

I was elated to see the number on the counter today!

I so enjoy reading all your blogs and thank you for sharing with me your lives.
I enjoy knowing your pets (those who have them) and your trips, and families, as well as you weaving, quilting, beading, card making, gardening and other endeavors.

My family says thanks also!

Fleur, looking ALIVE!

Droopy

When my lovely Fleur is really relaxing on her throne, she might possibly let down her guard enough to allow her minions to see an imperfection ( the droopy lip)!

This is one of the few times I've seen this, and I was wondering if she was especially tired! However I got to thinking that she might have been jealous of Joey from the blog http://twogreyhoundtown.blogspot.com.  Joey recently was photographed with his tongue hanging out while napping!

The Nudist

Why does my handsome lad have "bare butt"?

In the above picture, Power has some hair on his thighs, BUT...

Most of the time he has a very bare skin on both legs!

I wish some of you smart greyhound and other dog people would tell me why this happens!

But the reality is that with a face like this, who cares about the other end!

Extended throne

I recently turned the front passenger seat 90 degrees so that it acts as an extension to the sofa, so that QUEEN FLEUR won't have to tolerate the minions touching her while she is reclining on her throne.

Since a princess is sensitive to a "pea" under multiple mattresses (as in "The Princess and the pea"), Fleur, as a Queen, is even more sensitive.  She doesn't want any one touching her unless it's her idea!

Aide4greys

I discovered a company near Phoenix, AZ which exists solely for the purpose of making money to aide in greyhound adoption!
I found that they make a very special type of leash, and also offer many different fabrics for collars.

I recently ordered this set of collars and leash for Fleur.

The leash is special due to the fact that the loop for one's hand is completely adjustable, and thus leaves one's hand and arms free to be comfortably in use.

Sorry that the photos don't show the leash and collar better, but Fleur wasn't interested in modelling!

Holidays!

Independence Day holiday weekend brought out all sorts of  folks to out state park.  We had the Hispanic families who were 30-40 people trying to squeeze into one campsite so that they could party together, all day and all night!  When they wanted to go to the wash house, the would walk en mass through the campsites on their way, and they of course walked their pit bull dogs also, so we had some complaints that they were scaring folks .

We had families who sneaked fireworks into the park and shot them off when the night got really dark, and my greyhounds were so frightened by the noise that they stood stock still staring at me and shaking until after the fireworks had ended.
I'll protect you Mom

Power doesn't pant when scared
Fleur pants when she's afraid

Preparation for Holiday weekend

This very busy park is getting ready for the Independence Day weekend, so one job has been to make many, many copies of maps, boating regulations, etc for the entrance gate to use.

Our copy machine broke down months ago, and it is old enough that it cannot be fixed, so we have been resorting to the fax machine to make our copies.  Usually we would need about 40 copies for a weekend, but to start out I have made 150 copies of  EACH item that we use.

The fax machine heats up when we use it so we have to let it cool after 25 copies or the next copies are bad!

Also, the supply box needs lots of scotch type tape, and permanent markers, cash register paper,  storage bags for money when the cash register is overloaded, etc.

No matter how often we say "no fireworks" people still try to sneak and shoot them!
We are under fire restrictions all over New Mexico, therefore no fireworks are allowed!

During all weekends and holiday periods, the entrance gate is manned by volunteers, in order to help the public be "honest" and pay the $5 entrance fee!

Many people will camp right on the beach
The beach area is popular for primitive camping and will be covered all through the weekend.

Happy Independence Day weekend, everyone!

A real cutie!

This beauty was on the beach at Bluewater Lake State Park, New Mexico.

He is a Lark Sparrow!
