GSOD!

Thursday, the weather was so peaceful that I decided to visit with IDEE and her Mom and Dad at their campsite.  We were all glad to see each other, and "mid hello" all **** broke loose between IDEE and Fleur.

The GSOD(greyhound scream of death) was unsettling and spurred us to action.

We humans pulled them apart, and at that point IDEE's Mom asked me if the hole in her neck behind her ear was new.  When I got my brains into gear enough, I finally found the hole, behind her left ear, and down the neck.  All that GSOD was for good reason.

Fleur's fancy necklace!
I called my Northern New Mexico Vet and he said he would meet us at the office.  He sedated her, called in his assistant for help, and after all the shaving of the fur, stitching the neck injury, today we went to the vet's surgery to pick up our regal princess! They couldn't get her tiara to stay in place( she kept trying to nip their fingers when they were shining up the tiara and putting it on her royal brow).  So, instead, she has this lovely bandage and neon green vet wrap!
Harness loaned to me
IDEE's mom and dad were thinking ahead, and they offered us the use of a harness since no collar will be put on her neck for a few weeks.
Middle of the night
This princess has two dog beds stacked on each other, and still insists on looking very uncomfortable due to her hanging over the edge of the beds.
Mom, I am too weak to lift my head for that peanut butter!
IDEE's dad told me about the peanut butter with the pill trick.  So the above picture is of Fleur licking the last of the peanut butter from the plastic spoon.  Never had pills gone down her so easily.

So, in conclusion, tiara in place or not, sometimes the GSOD is truly a scream for help!

  1. Hi Y'all,

Just stumbled across y'all. My Human loves greyhounds, but she's stuck with me, a Chessie. WOW what a dramatic episode in the life of a greyhound I stumbled upon!

Oh, by the way, Fleur isn't alone in preferring to hang off her bed! My motto is to keep your bod on the soft bed and your head and at least one front paw on the floor to catch the air currents and feel the cool floor.

    Paws crossed Fleur heals quickly!

    Y'all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

    1. Thanks Hawk!
I just looked at your photo and I must say that for a non greyhound, you're a good looking dude!

  2. Hazel, I'm so glad you posted photos of Fleur. I've been so worried about you both. That entire incident, from the Greyhound Scream of Death, to bringing her home from the Vet's the next day, must have just been awful. BAD DOG, IDEE! :(

I hope Fleur is comfortable and not in too much pain, and I hope she has a speedy recover. Poor Baby.

    1. Hi Katie and Barbara, thanks for thinking of us.
We're cruising along, at a slower speed but still cruising

  3. Poor baby! I read about the incident on Me and My Dog and immediately came here. It looks like she is doing okay. That was definitely a SCARY experience. I'm glad she is back home with you.

    1. You are right! It was scary, but both people and animals have been so supportive, it makes it all easier.
      Thanks for your support.

  4. Poor Fleur. It's a good thing she has you to take care of her.

    1. I agree that it's a good thing, but in my mind, the good thing is that I have her to care for, rather than she having me to take care of her.

  5. Poor Fleur. Any idea what sparked the attack? Hope she's feeling better soon.

    1. I am not sure what sparked the attack, but think it might have been out nearness to the outdoor bed that was relatively near our feet. Territorial, perhaps?

  6. Poor Fleur. Hopefully she'll heal up super quick and get some peanut butter joy in the process.

    1. She is healing, though I think her neck hurts a good bit ( she doesn't want anyone touching her ). Her liking for peanut butter has diminished significantly and I've had to go to plan B ( hot dogs stuffed with pills.)

  7. Get well soon Fleur, although we are concerned about the use of the GSOD. The rules in Scotland are that it should be used for extremely minor incidents that would otherwise go unnoticed. We think this may be misuse of the system but since we're unsure of the rules elsewhere in the world and Fleur has had a rough day we'll let it go.

    All the best

    1. I think that on this side of the Atlantic, that the GSOD has the same rules of use as you mentioned! However, Fleur never reads rules, she makes her own, and she thinks the drama is very satisfying! Thanks for not reporting us to the rules police!

  8. Ah poor Fleur. Hope she heals quickly. If she tires of peanut butter, get some strained baby food meat. Worked great for our Poppy girl. I cut the pills up in small pieces rather than crush them so they wouldn't be bitter. Best wishes.

    1. I'm curious about the capsules of antibiotics, and how you put them into peqanut butter or baby food without the bitterness being a problem.

  9. Oh dear. Hope she recovers quickly. I use Peanut Butter to give Polly tablets.

    1. Fleur thinks that the peanut butter sticks to the roof of her mouth, and that she is having to work too hard to get it off her tongue.

  10. Eek. Poor Fleur. Greyhounds and their thin skin. Hope she heals up quickly.

    1. I changed her bandage yesterday and she is looking good. I'm having to keep it bandaged to keep her from pulling the stitches out with her hind feet toenails!

  11. That GSOD can really get your heart pumping! I'm so sorry that poor Fleur had to go through that. Most of our experiences have been something minor, like Bunny rolling over on a wrinkle in the covers at night, but we have had one or two serious ones, too.

    1. Those wrinkles in the sheets are so major to these delicate royal highnesses!
