A Different Week

This week is a bit different from most here in Quartzsite.  Almost all of the "Dingbats" have gone to Pilot Knob in California for a week.  They wanted to go across into Mexico for some medical and some shopping.  I and one other RV family have decided to stay in Quartzsite for reasons of mail, and taxes.  I spent the day yesterday at the generator repair place, and of course the generator would not misbehave at all.

Today I turned on the hot water heater, so that I could shower after housecleaning, but the hot water heater would not work!  I jut had it fixed a few weeks ago!
So I went back to the repair place and got an appointment for tomorrow at 10 AM to have the man work on it again.  When I was there before, he said that the propane is a dirty burner and that the burning tubes can get clogged up, so he blew them out and that fixed it.  But now the hot water heater is malfunctioning again.  Today, I turned on the generator and then turned on the electric portion of the hot water heater and so I was able to have a hot shower after all.

  1. Hope you can get the water heater sorted quickly and cheaply.

  2. I didn't realise there was so much work involved keeping an RV running. Hope everything is running well for you soon.

    1. Lynne, I have an old motorhome and that is some of the problem but some of it is the fact that I live in the motorhome year round and so items which were made for occasional use get used constantly. It's all good.

  4. Yikes. RV, all the troubles of owning a car and a house :-) But at least, when something breaks you can move your house to the repair shop. Sometimes it's not so easy to find a repair person and get them out to a stationary home!

  5. I wonder... a thought as I have had an RV in the past. To recreate the Hot Water heater not working, try lighting it for a good long time before you get to the repair place. Then, attempt lighting it. It could be that there is a problem such that one of the electronics gets overheated at the first firing and then won't fire on the second. Also, that could be indicative of a wire that is kinked such that it causes a break in the copper in the starter.

As there really isn't too many things that can go wrong in a Hot Water Heater, even one in an RV, which is slightly different than one in a home, those are about the two things that could be. That, and the electronic starter is going bad. It's pretty much like an older car in that there's a starter, battery and celeniod that start the car and they are all connected to the spark plugs and the carburetor. Fancy names, but not fancy problems.

Good Luck. I'll stop back and find out of it's been resolved and what the cause was.
