The eyes have it

While searching for a new greyhound in the fall of 2012, Greyhounds of the Verde Valley were very  accomodating.  After several conversations with their adoption lady, she suggested that I might like Power.  I looked at his photo on their website and was not impressed.  I had big doubts.  His eyes just blended into his face, and that bothered me because I was used to having light colored hounds with black eyeliner making their eyes really stand out!

Val and his beautiful face

Even from a distance their eyes stand out!

Power's face seems to hide his eyes!

A smile is more important than beautiful eyes!

Who says those eyes aren't outstanding?

  1. You know, I was a little leery of adopting a black dog because I'd heard they are really difficult to photograph. I'm actually not sure why people say that. It's just a matter of using your light to your advantage, which is true no matter what you're taking a picture of. I took pictures of all the dogs we met the day we went to the adoption kennel and met Flattery. When I looked back in the camera at the pictures, she had the most stunning eyes of any of them. I think Power's eyes are a shade darker than Flattery's, but I still think he's stunning. It must be that common DNA he has with Bunny! lol

    1. I agree about all this, and think that you are very good with your photography of the dogs. I think many of us just snap a picture and hope it turns out well, but I think you plan your photos and that it gives great results!

  2. I think Barbie's eyes are the best part of her, but I think owning a black dog has other benefits - you never know how dirty they are, and they are so sleek and shiny in the sun :)

  5. Ohhh, Power has very expressive eyes! Our girl, Ari, has brown eyes that are often hidden by her fur but when people get a look at them, they comment on how human-like her eyes look. I would agree. Ear skritches to both of your beautiful dogs!
