Wildlife

I was so excited to see a jackrabbit this evening!  I had been seeing the desert cottontail rabbits, but they weren't as spectacular to my eyes as the jackrabbit.  He/she didn't seem to be afraid of my presence, and I used my camera for a few minutes!

I was also excited to see a canyon towhee!  They seem to be fairly common here at City of Rocks, and I appreciate that as well.

Lots of sparrows,( white crowned), and also house finches are scooting around in the grass and gravel. Also note the few Gambel's quails.

  1. Look at those ears on that Jack Rabbit. He should be able to hear what you are saying. Isn't it neat that they just sit and let you snap away. I am just so honored when they do that. I just love your wildlife photos. I enjoy seeing what is out there in other parts of the country.

  2. Looks like you will need to go everywhere with your camera.

Here the nearest thing to a Jackrabbit is a Hare. They are big and have long ears. We have Sparrows, but they don't have white heads, also have a bird like the Towhee, but ours is a Dove. We have quail here, but again probably a different kind.

    1. Thanks for commenting. I am glad that different areas have different wildlife, because then each area has an excitement as I look out .

  3. That rabbit looks like the ones that hang around my Dad's garden but I don't think their ears are quite that big. Nice shots!

  4. Looks like a fun time, and life always stays interesting when the public are involved. Enjoy your stay there! Some day we may try workamping.
