Sofa Dogs, part 2

For the past few days I've been trying to get my hounds to use the sofa, instead of having to purchase dog beds for the floor.  The cost of dog beds would be okay except for the fact that they don't hold up to use, and they take up my floor space in my living room.

Guess who decided she liked the sofa after all!
Fleur had a first avoided the sofa, but lately she has used it some and can relax while she's up there!

I have the red sleeping bag over the sofa to protect the fabric.  The first days of Power's sofa use, he accidentally pulled the sleeping bag out of the sofa cushions, and it would slide to the floor, thus using floor space and not protecting the fabric.

A couple days ago, I got Power off the sofa, and pulled all the cushions off the back and tucked the sleeping bag so far down that it was almost touching the floor, then put the cushions back on.  This has worked very well, and now I just need to find a way to keep the quilted throw over the back cushions.  So far it has been safety pins, with little luck.  Any suggestions?

No roaching, so far!

  1. What about velcro?

Looks like Fleur will never go back to a dog bed now.

    1. Sue, thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know how it goes.

  2. This is a lot of work but my husband put a bolt or you could use a screw on the underneath side on the back. I then sewed on some strips of material to the blanket and then attached them to the bolt. It worked great and kept a 131 lb Great Dane from being able to pull it off.

  3. Hmmm....the pins were a great idea. I am not very creative when it comes to stuff like this, but the first thought that comes to me is one of those fabric holders (the ones you see on TV that are supposed to hold fabric together, ie: use them to pin up pants instead of having to hem them). I don't remember what they are called and I have never used one so I am not sure they work. Good luck!

  4. I'm interested if you find the answer! I have a blanket on my couch which is tucked in everywhere possible but between Frankie pulling it off for fun and Beryl digging it up so it's as crumpled as she likes it's rarely tidy. Apart from keeping them off the couch (which isn't an option!) I can only keep tucking it back in. It's a bit like making the bed ... Beryl likes to shape the blanket on top into a circle with crumples so I can guarantee the bed won't look like I've made it for long :) Gotta laugh and love them!

    1. I haven't had any trouble with the sleeping bag coming loose since I tucked it so deeply as I noted in my last post. Now I am working on the quilt that covers the back cushions. I'm just so relieved to have the sleeping bag stay put. The fabric on the sleeping bag is nylon or silky something, so not fur sticks to it, and not dirt sticks to it. That is important to me.

  5. Looks like progress is being made. What about those spiral upholstery pins? I use them to keep a bed skirt in place.

  6. I am particularly fond of pulling the blanket off the back of the couch so I can make a little nest on the couch with it. I thought that's what it was there for!
